How to deal with Anxiety and Stress? πŸ€”

In this blog post, I am going to share some hacks and tricks to hack your brain from anxiety and stress, if you haven’t my blog post on “What causes anxiety”, it might give you some perspective, feel free to Click here

Anxiety comes from worrying and fearing about something, you are constantly thinking about a problem that occupies your mind and it keeps you there until you feel like you are powerless and you have no control over it.  A bit of worry can get the things done and move and propel you forward and get things done. However, we need to become aware and draw a line if it starts occupying space in our lives and makes us feel bad to the extent of self-sabotage and self-loathing.

If you feel anxious, it means you are living in the future which does not exist right now and not enjoying the present moment that you currently in.

“Worrying does not solve your problem or make them disappear, it only steals the joy of the present moment”

Try thinking about the problem you were facing a year ago, even six months ago, it doesn’t matter now, does it? In the same way, things you are worrying right now will matter a month from now, or 6 months from now.

You have an expectation of things happening in a certain way and you are holding on to that frame and how things should happen. But the reality is much more flexible than you think, just realise that.

Now if you are feeling anxious about something, learn to observe your thoughts, take yourself out of the picture or frame and ask yourself,

Why I am so worried or anxious?  why should I let myself caught up in living in future? Now if you feel anxious, worried or afraid, don’t resist it and fight it, because

“What you resist, persists”

If you are resisting it, you are not accepting it and trying to control it. Just acknowledge that it is there, learn to Bring acceptance that this is something you are experiencing, you are acknowledging the very fact of you being a human, or that you are a human.

Don’t judge yourself or put labels on yourself like you have “anxiety disorder” or “ADHD” or whatever labels we put on it collectively.

If you want to feel free from anxiety, feel that emotion completely and see it slowly dissolving, that’s the only way to let it go and rise above the negative feelings.

Stress is the body’s natural way to keep you safe and protected. If you don’t feel safe or threatened, the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) will start to release cortisol (stress hormone) in the blood-stream. It is the body’s natural way of fight or flight response. for example, if you see a tiger walking towards you, you only have two option, either fight with it or run and find a rescue(Flight) and most of us would choose the second one and its normal.

So here the body will start to release cortisol and adrenaline into the bloodstream. so you can run and protect yourself. Now relate this with your daily life and study it

Notice your breath how shallow and rapid it becomes, observe your heart, how fast your heart-beat gets, now a simple but profound way to overcome this is                                                                                      ” Become aware of your breath”

Breath is an important tool to bring your body to homeostasis, a body’s natural way to bring it to a neutral state

A little breathing exercise you can do is 4-7-8 breathing exercise

Take a few deep breaths and come back to your senses

Step 1
Breath all the air in for 4 seconds, imagine breathing all oxygen and fill your stomach up with as much air as possible.

Step 2
Hold your breath for 7 seconds and imagine your breath in your stomach and in your chest.

Step 3
Breath out all the air from your chest and belly, let it all go for 8 seconds and imagine all the stress leaving your body and let it all out. Imagine all the black smoke leaving your body.

Feel how your body feels relaxed, calm and centred. The above exercise also works for anxiety management and overcoming “anxiety”

Your body holds on to emotions of stress and stores them in different parts of our body, like jaw, shoulders, neck, stomach, back eyes, etc. it can cause physical illnesses.

Now sometimes stress can also come from the environment you are in, change your environment or just go for a walk, or go sit in a park for a while, don’t take your phone with you or just turn it off. Just listen to calm music or Simply observe the environment, birds, trees, the grass, or go see a sunset. it all sounds simple but very effective in the long run.
